Saturn takes about two and a half years to cross one sign. Sade Sati is the stretch when it crosses the sign before your Moon, the Moon sign itself and the sign after — three signs, about seven and a half years. Everyone gets it roughly every thirty years. It is one of the most searched and most feared terms in Vedic astrology, and most of the fear comes from reading it as a single event.
Three phases, three questions
- Rising phase (Saturn in the 12th from the Moon): what are you spending — time, money, energy — without noticing?
- Peak phase (Saturn on the Moon): what habits of mind are you being asked to make sturdier?
- Setting phase (Saturn in the 2nd from the Moon): what do you actually value, and what is just accumulation?
Classical texts describe the middle phase as the hardest, but the individual chart moderates everything. Saturn as a friendly or functional benefic for your Lagna, a strong Moon, or a supportive running dasha can make the whole period feel like steady work rather than pressure.
How the engine detects it
Jyotish Drishti scans Saturn's sidereal longitude across a date range and records the entries and exits from the three signs around your natal Moon, retrograde loops included. That is why the report can show precise start and end dates and mark which phase you are in today, rather than quoting a generic table.
